Mixing is an important stage in music production. Producers specialising in all kinds of music need to carefully mix the different parts into a single file to achieve exceptional audio quality and a fantastic tune.

Although most people aren't aware, when done correctly, audio mixing can elevate a piece of music to new heights.

Mixing entails more than simply changing the volume levels of individual voice recordings and instruments.

Sound mixing can be defined as the process of combining multitrack recordings into a mono or stereo sound. In Audio mixing, various processes are used to blend the tracks such as compression, equalization and reverb.

Mixing is an art that requires a significant experience and advanced techniques to get some great results. A mixing engineer highlights the best in your different parts by balancing levels, panning, and using audio effects.

The following steps may be included in the mixing process :

1. Volume balance
2. Equalization

3. Compression

4. Stereo enhancement using Panning

5. Space using Reverb and Delay

6. Automation

You can ensure that your audio sounds great on all loudspeakers, systems, media types, and devices by combining and finishing your songs.

However, to get noticed and create an impact, you must simply be the greatest. You just have a few seconds to capture the audience's interest before they go on to the next tune and forget about you.

When anyone listens to your song and observes, for instance, badly mixed voices that clip often or percussion that overwhelm the other sounds, they will skip it.

Here’s where audio mixing and its many offerings come in:

1.    Create A Tune That Delights

Mixing allows you to adjust the pitch of each component, resulting in a safer and greener sound. Equalization, location, and component loudness are all changed at various points during the song to get the desired auditory effect.

2.    EQ

The music producers may alter the song's EQ during mixing. This may assist in eliminating any mid-bass that might occur when several instruments are recorded simultaneously. Learn how to use EQ for a better mix

3.    Increase Quality

Mixing allows each ingredient to be handled separately for the best results. Disparities or faults in loudness throughout a song must be addressed at this step. The track is then mixed with the other instrumentals to achieve the song's desired impact.

4.    Manage Volume

Balance is important. Mixing is primarily concerned with the volume of each musical part. This makes it possible for the appropriate voices or instruments to stand out or blend in well. In short, audio designers are crucial in bringing the artist's idea for each track and song to life for the audience, making audio mixing an important (if not imperative) step for all budding composers and artists.

Here is an article on how to widen your mix thanks to stereo imaging

1. Bounce separated stems (Kick and Bass/Sub must be sent separately as well as Send/Return channels).

2. Keep all your processes activated on the stems (automations, filters…). In the case you have filter(s) on your master, you have to copy and past it/them to all the stems affected by the filter(s). No need to copy limiters or compressors as we don’t need them for the mixing and mastering process.

3. Check that there’s no clipping in your stems.

4. Send and return channels are welcomed for the stems including FXs such as Reverb, Delay, Chorus… In this case, you have 2 separated stems: the original stem without Fxs and a stem with the Fxs only. It will allow our mastering engineer to have enough margin to work on your audio.

5. Bounce your stems in WAV/AIFF 24 BITS/44.1KHz with no dithering. You can check our article "Dithering : What you need to know".

6. Send us separated stems with a peak level between -6dB and -3dB.

7. Send us reference track(s) to let us better know what you’re looking for.

8.  Name your files and compress it in a ZIP or RAR.
